Liner notes + a horsey sea songs mixtape for ill Mare | post |
24 Aug 2020> We're gonna release a song 1x a month from Herd of Birds, the next Sound ƒuries album forthcoming on 12/24/2020 (our 24th anniversary), hear's the 1st single, "Mare." We originally recorded "Mare" in the late '80s for a '89 cassette release Whorl (we called it "Skin" back then) + re-released it on the unheard tapes, but we wanted to re-do it w/ our bedder-½ singing. It was our ode to the ocean, back when we lived in Santa Cruz + used to spend countless hours staring at the waves. We changed a few of the lyrics, otherwise it's pretty much the same. the sea
the waves wash away the pain
so deep + heavy
she is timeless
i remember gliding in a boat blown by the wind
the waves away the shells
so beautiful you looked
something filled the air Lyrically it's diffrent then the rest of the songs on Herd of Birds (which yes, are primarily about birds, bees + our current homebound situation). We used acoustic on all the songs tho (we would of last year on 3.3 x 3.3 = S.S. but our acoustic guitar was outta commission or back + forth to Fender HQ being fixed) but most of the other tracks rock out a bit more, don't worry... perhaps weird to release a ballad as a single, but it was the 1st track we finished months ago. Hear's a video we made for it (using canned ocean footage): + hear's a mixtape of sea songs that inspired or share common ground w/ ill "Mare":
